Clergyman and anthropologist. Joint author (with A.W. Howitt) of Kamilaroi and Kurnai. Lorimer Fison was a Wesleyan missionary, anthropologist and journalist. He worked in Fiji as a missionary from 1863-1871 and 1875-1884. Fison published influential works on Fijian systems of kinship and land tenure; later he conducted careful studies of Aboriginal culture and social organization.

Lorimer Fison (1932-1909) was a clergyman and anthropologist educated at Sheffield, Cambridge, and Melbourne. He relocated from England to Australia in 1856 and later served with the Australasian Wesleyan Methodist Missionary Society in Fiji from 1863 to 1884. During that time he was Principal of the Training Institution for Natives at Navuloa. In his correspondence and other wrting, Fison recorded his observations of Australian Aborginal customs and daily life.
